The Pentagon could introduce a $400 billion cut to United States President Donald Trump's record-breaking military budget, sources told Politico on Thursday.
According to people familiar with the matter, the Pentagon and congressional spending committees are working on a $1.1 trillion defense budget, below the $1.5 trillion in military spending envisioned by the president.
Earlier this year, Trump requested $1.5 trillion to fund the military's next budget, which would make it the largest one in history, marking a roughly 40% to 44% increase over the previous year's level. The spending would be used to expand the country's major weapon systems, provide new battle force ships, and rebuild the defense industrial base.
