Nvidia will deploy new software developed by Emerald AI to reduce power use at the Aurora data center in Virginia, which is currently under construction, Axios learned on Wednesday.
The software enables more effective use of energy and reduces strain on the grid, and will be first deployed at the Aurora data center. According to plans, the massive new facility is expected to consume as much as 96 megawatts of energy, amid a continuing upsurge in electricity demand driven by the ongoing AI boom.
It has been estimated that Emerald AI's software can reduce power usage by 25% during periods of grid stress by pausing or slowing intensive computing tasks, without affecting AI performance. This enables data centers to maintain efficiency while easing pressure on the grid.
