Cisco launches high-speed AI networking chip

Cisco Systems announced on Tuesday the release of Silicon One G300, a new chip and router designed to speed up gigawatt-scale AI data-center traffic by maximizing GPU utilization and reducing delays.

Using Intelligent Collective Networking technology, Cisco's switch chip, which is anticipated to be on sale in the second half of the year, will enable the chips that train and deliver AI systems to communicate with one another across hundreds of thousands of links. According to Cisco, the chip will let some AI computing tasks be completed 28% faster and improve energy efficiency for 100% liquid-cooled systems by around 70%.

"The Cisco Silicon One G300 will power new Cisco N9000 and Cisco 8000 systems that push the frontier of AI networking in the data center ... Cisco Silicon One is the industry's most scalable and programmable unified networking architecture, offering a complete portfolio of networking devices across AI, hyperscaler, data center, enterprise, and service provider use cases," the tech leader elaborated in a press release.
