'Kids who report LA crime rewarded with free Disneyland tickets in new neighborhood challenge'

Report crime? Get free tickets to Disneyland.

That’s what leaders in two Los Angeles neighborhoods promised kids who participate in a 30-day crime-fighting challenge.

Children in the Gardena and Harbor Gateway sections of LA who report illegal activity will receive two free tickets to Disneyland and a $50 gift card, according to Fox 11.

The challenge has drawn early enthusiasm from kids vowing to participate in the program, which stems from residents’ complaints about homeless encampments, graffiti and illegal dumping.

“I want to deal with all the vandalism,” a sixth-grade girl from Environmental Charter Middle School told Fox 11. The middle school is first up to participate in the program, which will eventually rotate to other schools.

“I want to work on how to fix that and how to prevent injuries from potholes and broken cement,” another sixth-grade girl told the network.

The kids can report illegal activities via the MyLA 3-1-1 or Gardena Direct apps.

“They are the superheroes, and they don’t have to wait,” one supporter of the challenge told Fox 11. “They’ll get the value of having done something well…over time they’ll need less incentive,”

The challenge begins on Feb. 14 and runs through March 16.
