AstraZeneca (LSE/STO/NYSE: AZN) has awarded $3.4 million to 47 nonprofit organizations in the United States through its Accelerate Change Together (ACT) on Health Equity initiative, according to a company press release.
The funding, distributed in the program's fifth year, brings total contributions to more than $18 million since the initiative's launch. The grants support programs focused on healthcare access, nutrition, lung health, and reducing barriers to preventable conditions for underserved communities.
The 2025 Community Solutions Challenge provided $1.11 million across 37 nonprofit organizations, with each receiving $30,000 to support regional and community-based programs. These initiatives address food insecurity, nutritional education, healthcare access, and lung health for individuals with asthma, COPD, and lung cancer.
The 2025 National Strategic Collaborations awarded $2.3 million to 10 organizations working on initiatives related to lung disease, lung and breast cancer, and cardiology. These programs target barriers that contribute to higher rates of preventable conditions and challenges preventing underserved populations from receiving standard care.
"At AstraZeneca, we believe advancing health equity is fundamental to building a healthier society," said Mohit Manrao, SVP, Head of US Oncology and President, AstraZeneca Foundation.
Among the recipients, Greater Providence YMCA received funding for its Adaptive Fitness Program, which provides inclusive fitness options for adults with chronic conditions, mobility limitations, or disabilities. "Our Adaptive Fitness Program exists to close that gap by offering inclusive programs, specialized equipment, and trained staff," said Karen Santilli, CEO of Greater Providence YMCA.
AstraZeneca launched the ACT on Health Equity initiative in 2021 as part of its global sustainability efforts. The program includes a Health Equity Advisory Council comprising external community leaders, academics, healthcare professionals, and nonprofit executives.
