The United States secretly delivered thousands of Starlink terminals to Iran after authorities there clamped down on protests and restricted internet access, The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, citing US officials.
US authorities reportedly moved roughly 6,000 terminals into the country after Iranian forces suppressed demonstrations and imposed widespread connectivity cuts. The US Department of State had purchased nearly 7,000 terminals in recent months, redirecting funds from other internet-freedom programs to support anti-regime activists. According to officials, US President Donald Trump was briefed on the deliveries, though it remains unclear who formally authorized the operation.
After the protests, Trump said Washington warned Tehran against harming civilians and left open the possibility of military action. Nuclear talks followed last week, with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi calling them a "good start," following Trump's warning of "very steep" consequences if no deal is reached.
