'Banks may seek to avoid AI data center debt: FT'

Banks worldwide are seeking ways to avoid risks of AI data center debt, the Financial Times reported on Sunday, citing sources familiar with the matter.

Banks including JPMorgan Chase & Co., Morgan Stanley and SMBC Inc. are allegedly trying to distribute data center contracts to a larger number of investors. According to the outlet, companies Oracle Corp. and CoreWeave Inc. have borrowed "hundreds of billions" to build data centers and AI labs across the United States, pressuring lenders.

The report also claimed that JPMorgan and MUFG Ltd. spent six months trying to distribute the $38 million debt tied to Oracle's construction in Texas and Wisconsin. JPMorgan, SMBC, Morgan Stanley and MUFG refused to comment on the report.
