Three people died on a cruise ship travelling from Argentina to Cape Verde in the Atlantic Ocean, as a result of a viral infection.
The World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed to Agence France-Presse that at least one fatality was caused by an hantavirus outbreak aboard MV Hondius, with five other cases suspected. Another individual is currently undergoing treatment in South Africa. "While rare, hantavirus may spread between people, and can lead to severe respiratory illness and requires careful patient monitoring, support, and response," WHO stated.
