Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stressed once again that Israeli forces would remain in southern Lebanon's "security zone" for "as long as necessary," dismissing US pressure and ongoing international talks.
"I stand firm on the fact that we will remain in the security zone in southern Lebanon for as long as is required to protect the residents of the north and all the citizens of the state," he said in a video message posted to his X account on Monday.
Yesterday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the first real test of progress made in the talks in Switzerland will be a newly established mechanism designed to prevent renewed fighting in Lebanon. According to a joint statement released by mediators Qatar and Pakistan, Iran and the US agreed to create a "deconfliction cell" involving them and Lebanon to "ensure the adherence of the termination of military operations in Lebanon" under the MoU.
