Treasury allows sale of Iranian oil for 60 days

The United States Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) authorized on Monday the production, delivery and sale of crude oil and petroleum of Iranian origin, confirming an earlier statement by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

According to the OFAC's statement, the general license authorizes the import of Iranian oil into the US until August 21. "Any payment of funds owed to Iran, the Government of Iran, or any blocked person for the purchase of crude oil, petrochemical products, or petroleum products of Iranian origin authorized may be made in US dollar-denominated funds," the office said.

However, it was noted that the license does not authorize any transactions involving individuals or organizations from North Korea, Cuba, Ukraine, or the Crimean region of Ukraine.
