China's Long March-10B carrier rocket thundered into the sky from Wenchang in Hainan Province on Friday, completing its maiden flight and delivering a landmark controlled recovery of its first stage.
The test marked a major advance in China's push to develop reusable launch systems and reduce the cost of future space missions. "This is China's first successful implementation of controlled recovery of a carrier rocket's first substage, and also the world's first network recovery of a carrier rocket," China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation said in a statement.
After the achievement, Hong Kong-listed space-related stocks also surged. Hainan Drinda New Energy Technology jumped more than 28%, APT Satellite Holdings rose over 17%, Goldwind Science & Technology gained more than 15%, China Aerospace International Holdings climbed over 10%, and China Strategic Technology Group advanced more than 9%.
