An oil tanker may have exploded after striking a sea mine in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a report by Iran's Mehr News Agency on Sunday, citing an informed source.
The source claimed the tanker had deviated from a shipping route designated by Iranian authorities before the incident. The report said the vessel exploded after colliding with a sea mine but provided no information on casualties, the ship's identity, or independent confirmation of the incident.
Mehr added that Iran had previously warned vessels that leave the routes specified by it.
