Nvidia may reduce OpenAI data center backing to $120B

Nvidia will lower its planned $250 billion guarantee for OpenAI's data center in Ohio to less than $120 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing unnamed people familiar with the deal.

The reduction is aimed at addressing investor concerns about the chipmaker's risk exposure, the report said, adding that a deal might be signed as soon as this weekend.

The new outline of the deal would see Nvidia providing a financial guarantee for the first phase, which would total around five gigawatts of power, and then decide later whether or how to fund the rest. OpenAI is still in talks to sign a lease for 10 gigawatts of the project in the coming days, the report noted.
