SpaceX up as $100B in shares unlock for trading

Shares of Space Exploration Technologies Corp., known as SpaceX, saw a 6% increase on Thursday as its first post-IPO lockup period ended and over 911.5 million insider and early investor shares, worth about $100 billion, became available for public trade. More unlocks follow on August 12 and 20 days later, with 4 billion shares becoming tradable by year-end.

The unlock increases the number of tradable shares from roughly 639 million to roughly 1.55 billion, more than doubling SpaceX's public float. The massive influx of newly eligible stock coincides with a sharp pullback in SpaceX shares, which dipped below their $135 IPO price following heavy capital expenditure reports.

The reusable rocket maker's shares jumped 6.22% at 10:34 am ET, going for $115 apiece.
