The Orange County Fair has been entertaining and informing Southern Californians since 1890. Back then, it focused on small livestock and horse racing. As Orange County grew, so did the Fair, and today it proudly boasts unique exhibits, thrilling rides, cholesterol-rich foods, first-class entertainment, and numerous presentations showcasing the county’s exceptional talent. This year’s Fair began on July 17 and runs through August 16.
In 2026, we can add a new Fair category: Desiring President Donald Trump’s Death.
The Orange County Fair has allowed a photo to be displayed depicting someone holding a sign that reads “Happy Last Birthday“ next to a sign of Donald Trump. (The photo is attributed to Alexander Nguyen, called “The Young Fight” – entry #1443.)

Think about what happened. Someone who wants our president murdered submitted the photo. An Orange County Fair committee that reviews photo submissions looked at this photo and had no problem entering it in the Fair.
On August 3, 2026, Will O’Neill, Chairman of the Orange County GOP, wrote a letter to Chairwoman Barbara Bagneris and Orange County Fair Board Members.

Highlighting a photo using the phrase “Happy Last Birthday” next to our President’s image in today’s political climate, following multiple assassination attempts against President Donald Trump, increasing threats against elected officials, and a disturbing rise in politically motivated violence is unacceptable.
Public institutions should exercise extraordinary caution before displaying imagery that can reasonably be interpreted as normalizing or trivializing rhetoric surrounding the death or elimination of political figures. Given that you have multiple elected officials on your Board – including a Trustee of the Newport-Mesa Unified School District – you clearly know better.
At best, the display demonstrates astonishingly poor judgment. At worst, it contributes to the toxic political environment that leaders across the political spectrum claim they want to reduce.
The fact that this deranged “photo” was allowed sends a message that the Fair has no problem with violence against elected officials, especially if they are Republicans and even better if it is President Donald J. Trump.
Another anti-Republican message that the Orange County Fair Chairwoman sent—and which O’Neill notes in the same letter—was refusing to allow the Republican Party of Orange County to have a booth during the fair. The OCGOP has had a booth for more than a decade, but suddenly a Republican booth becomes threatening.
Fairs have hundreds of booths offering products, services, and information. Festival goers have the freedom to walk by and ignore booths that don’t interest them, or they can visit to learn more. No one is forced to go to any booth. Just keep walking if you’re not interested in what the booth is selling or promoting, which is why the Fair should have allowed both the Republican and Democrat parties to have a booth.
This photo incident shows the insanity of Orange County Fair leadership. The same year the Fair leadership denies the Republican Party of Orange County a booth because they want to avoid politics, that same Fair leadership (or committee heads working on their behalf) thought it would be a great idea to display a photo depicting the celebration of President Trump’s death.
OCGOP Chairman O’Neill closed his August 3, 2026, letter by rightfully requesting that the Fair answer these key questions:
- Who approved the display of this politically charged photograph?
- What criteria were used to determine that this exhibit complied with Fair policy?
- Does the Fair intend to apply its policies equally to all organizations regardless of political viewpoint, or are those policies enforced selectively?
- Will the Fair reconsider its policies to ensure that no political ideology receives preferential treatment in future exhibitions?
- Why was the Republican Party of Orange County denied booth space based on a stated prohibition against political activity?
