Putin: Western influence in the world is declining

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that international conflicts are likely to persist, predicting a continued appetite for major geopolitical "gambles."

However, Putin argued that Western countries' influence on global affairs is declining as other nations become more prosperous. Speaking at the Valdai Discussion Club, the Russian leader once again called for changes to the United Nations to better reflect the world's diversity, going on to outline plans for potential restructuring.

He stressed that reform should go beyond expanding the Security Council to include changes to the substance of the organization's work.
