European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen hailed on Thursday the progress made by teams from the European Union and Ukraine on financial support. She said the two sides "identified the means" to cover Ukraine's budget and defense needs for 2026 and agreed on steps to ensure their "timely" release.
Von der Leyen added that the EU will "move swiftly" to allocate the remaining €45 billion under the Ukraine Support Loan and that the Union will begin work on identifying additional budgetary and defense needs. "All sides agreed that other partners should also fulfil their financial commitments and step up their efforts in light of the significant challenges Ukraine is facing," she said.
