'Lawmaker says Iranian politicians use public funds for corrupt institutions'

 

Some Iranian political figures have established government-funded companies and organizations for their own benefit, many of which have become centers of financial corruption, Mohammad Bagheri Bonabi, a member of parliament's Economic Committee, said.

Bagheri Bonabi said Wednesday that government spending remained excessive and called for merging or eliminating state-owned companies with overlapping functions. He said many ministries had more than 50 affiliated companies that could be consolidated into fewer than 25, allowing inefficient boards of directors to be eliminated.
