'Pezeshkian says most of Iran’s seaborne trade has been blocked'

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Wednesday that 75% to 80% of Iran’s trade had previously moved by sea but that those routes had been blocked, adding that Tehran was working to open alternative channels.

“Seventy-five to 80% of our trade was through the sea, which they have closed,” Pezeshkian said at an event marking National Export Day. “We are opening the route through alternative ways so that trade can continue.”

Pezeshkian also said the government had changed some regulations and delegated more authority to ministers and provincial governors during Iran’s two recent wars, and said similar flexibility was needed to keep trade and exports moving.
