Alphabet Inc.'s Google LLC announced in a statement on Thursday that it will expand its partnership with Voltus Inc. to build a one-gigawatt (GW) virtual power plant across the PJM grid region. The PJM Interconnection grid serves approximately 67 million people, operating across 13 states and Washington, DC.
"Building on a 100-megawatt agreement from earlier this year, this 10-fold expansion represents one of the largest known distributed capacity portfolios deployed by a hyperscaler to date. This initiative reflects Google's commitment to actively bring new capacity to local grids while strengthening regional reliability and affordability," the tech giant stated.
Just like previously, Voltus will aggregate new capacity from local businesses and homes into a Google-funded Virtual Power Plant.
