Israel sanctions UK-registered firm over fuel transfer to Iran-backed Hezbollah

Israel sanctioned UK-registered energy company Coral Oil Thursday over the transfer of about 130,000 liters of fuel to Al-Amana, a fuel company owned by Iran-backed Hezbollah, the Defense Ministry said.

In a statement, the ministry said the sanctions were intended to disrupt commercial and logistical supply chains supporting Hezbollah’s operations.

“The sanction aims to sever the link between the business and commercial sphere and the logistical infrastructure that enables Hezbollah to operate its terror apparatus,” the ministry said.

It said Hezbollah uses fuel to transport weapons and military components, power generators and other infrastructure, and support underground facilities.

“Supplying fuel to Hezbollah therefore provides it with operational capabilities that sustain its activities and advance terrorist activity against Israel,” the ministry said.

Coral Oil is a Lebanese company registered in the United Kingdom and controlled by the Yamin family, according to the ministry. It said the company is linked to a network of affiliated firms and international business interests worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
