Iran is planning to create a "new legal regime" in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for the transit of global energy supplies, RIA Novosti reported on Monday, citing an unnamed Iranian security source.
"The situation in the Strait of Hormuz will evolve with the establishment of a new legal regime," the source was quoted as saying, without giving further information. The media previously reported that Tehran was considering keeping control of the strait even after the close of the conflict with the United States and Israel.
The Iranian authorities currently maintain that the Hormuz Strait is closed only to "aggressor" countries.
