US warns EU over LNG access if trade deal altered

 United States Ambassador to the European Union Andrew Puzder warned that the bloc could lose "favourable" access to liquefied natural gas (LNG) if it alters a bilateral trade deal, the Financial Times reported on Monday, as lawmakers prepare to vote on the pact later this week.

"I don't know what will happen with respect to energy if they don't go forward with the agreement," Puzder said, adding that "there are other buyers out there."

The Turnberry pact includes a commitment for the EU to purchase $750 billion worth of US energy by 2028. The warning comes after the European Parliament resumed work on the agreement following a January pause tied to tensions over Greenland, with EU trade commissioner Maros Sefcovic stressing that "a deal is a deal."
