Former Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan (pictured) has been appointed as the new secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, local media reported on Thursday.
Dehghan served as the country's defense minister between 2013 and 2017, and as Iran's vice president from 2004 to 2009. He was also a commander in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) before becoming vice president.
Dehghan will replace Ali Larijani, who was killed in an Israeli strike in Tehran two days ago, at the helm of the Supreme National Security Council.
