The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) issued a joint statement rejecting Iran's attempt to close the Strait of Hormuz, calling the move "illegal" and arguing it threatens regional stability.
The GCC said any disruption to shipping or fees for passage would undermine freedom of navigation in one of the world's most critical waterways. The statement, delivered by GCC Secretary-General Jasem Al-Budaiwi, reflected consensus among leaders from Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates.
The declaration came after the GCC's 19th Consultative Meeting in Jeddah.
