Hegseth: US must get Iran to 'give up' nuclear aims

 United States Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Wednesday that Washington must "get them to the point where they're at the table giving it up," as he outlined the administration's approach to Iran's nuclear program.

Hegseth said, "You have to stare down this kind of enemy who is hell-bound on getting a nuclear weapon." He added that US and Israeli strikes left Iran's nuclear facilities "obliterated," but warned Tehran still has "nuclear ambitions" and a "conventional shield of thousands of missiles."

The remarks came during his first appearance before Congress since the Iran war began, where Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Air Force General Dan Caine described the proposed defense budget as a "historic down payment for future security."
