United States Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Wednesday that Iran is "not buying Chinese missiles" as he defended the administration's strategy in the war during testimony before the House Armed Services Committee, previously telling lawmakers the United States is "absolutely" winning.
Hegseth said "we're ensuring they're not buying Chinese missiles," arguing Tehran has limited military options. Pressed on risks around the Strait of Hormuz, he said the Defense Department "looked at all aspects of this risk", including the possibility Iran could disrupt the key oil shipping route.
He also said the estimated cost of the war is "less than $25 billion," with Pentagon official Jules Hurst putting the figure at "$25 billion," primarily on munitions.
