Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Monday it killed a senior Iranian commander in an airstrike in Tehran.
IDF wrote on X that the strike killed Asghar Bagheri, who led the Special Operations Unit 840 of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force. "He advanced numerous efforts and was involved in attacks targeting Israeli and American individuals worldwide," the military said.
The statement added that Bagheri directed operations against Israeli soldiers along the Syrian-Israeli border using operatives linked to former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and worked to transfer weapons into Israel. Earlier, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said Israel struck Iran's largest petrochemical facilities at Asaluyeh. The IDF also claimed that it carried out overnight strikes targeting aircraft, helicopters, and infrastructure at three Tehran airports.
