Leftists move on from ‘nobody’s coming for your guns’

 Leftists are no longer hiding their plans to take your guns if they ever gain power.  That means it’s time to get activated in defending freedom.

The gun-grabber ghouls of the left have always played a little game incrementally demanding more control over a commonsense and constitutional civil right.  Though they used to occasionally say the quiet part out loud, things have changed.  They’ve never been as blatant about it as they are now.

In the past, the ghouls had the advantage that history had yet to be made in other Western countries, so they could brush off the very real accusations that they were ultimately out to confiscate guns.  They could say we were being paranoid or toss off some variation of the infamous line that “no one is talking about taking your guns.”

But now guns have been confiscated around the world.  Even worse, the facile promises of safety from these actions have failed to materialize.  We now have the advantage of hindsight, to the point that the ghouls can no longer dismiss the gun confiscation accusation as “extreme.”  We can now easily point to the U.K., Australia, and Canada, so they’ve changed their tactics.  

The ghouls used to also wait for a “mass shooting” tragedy to advance their schemes, exploiting other people’s pain for their political gain.  They are no longer even bothering to wait for those moments, but are simply pushing anti-liberty legislation as fast as they can write it.  And so the gun-grabbing ghouls are seizing the moment — along with the property from innocent people.

Consider this sampling of anti-liberty legislation, starting with Colorado, where they want to impose even barrel controls.  Redefining what a gun is will make it that much more difficult for innocent citizens to defend themselves.    

Then we have the former free state of Virginia, where the ghouls have offered a great big bear hug to any piece of anti-liberty legislation that’s popped into their authoritarian heads.  The worst is an expanded “assault firearm” ban designed to disarm most Virginians if it survives any kind of Supreme Court scrutiny.  

These egregious examples pale in comparison to those of Rhode Island Democrats.  This piece of anti-liberty legislation crosses the gun confiscation Rubicon.  Yes, the same people who promised last year that they weren’t “coming for anyone’s guns” have “an 18-bill slate that is a greatest-hits album of every Democrat’s wish list”:

• A direct assault on the bipartisan Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) via a “public nuisance” liability.
• Gun rationing (because apparently the Second Amendment comes with a monthly quota).
• Background checks on ammunition.
• Mandatory training requirements.
• Mandatory liability insurance to exercise a constitutional right. Try to imagine them requiring this for voting or speech.
• And the headline-grabber: outright possession bans on commonly-owned semiautomatic rifles.

Here’s Rep. Teresa Tanzi, the bill’s sponsor, telling the House Judiciary Committee exactly what she has in mind for firearms her constituents legally own: “We have defined which is dangerous and we have the right to regulate it into nonexistence.”

But wait, there’s more, and it could get a lot worse for everyone.

The ghouls are unwilling to just deprive the innocent people of the respective states of their commonsense civil rights; they would like to do this to the entire country. 

Even if you’re not a gun owner — or lost all your guns in an unfortunate boating accident — these stories should make it crystal-clear what is at stake in the upcoming electoral contests.  Cruel leftists have already made noises about persecuting pro-freedom patriots, nuking the filibuster, making Puerto Rico and D.C. states, and packing the Supreme Court.  And that’s what they will openly admit to at the moment.  Who knows what else they have in mind?

If there is any constant in the universe, it’s that the collectivist left will lie, and lie often.   It’s a hobby and a skill.   It’s just like a spanner in the leftists’ political tool kit.  It’s when they tell the truth that you really have to worry.
