Mayor Zohran Mamdani is expected to meet King Charles III when the royal takes a trip across the pond next week, according to a report.
The democratic socialist and the British monarch will attend a wreath laying at the 9/11 memorial in downtown Manhattan on Wednesday, two people familiar with the planning told Politico.
The mayor’s office stressed in a statement that Mamdani and the king “will not meet privately.”
“He was invited to join a number of New York elected officials next week at a wreath laying at the 9/11 memorial with members of the British royal family,” senior City Hall spokesperson Dora Pekec said.
Other government bigwigs, including former mayor Michael Bloomberg, will also be on hand for the event, according to Politico.
The expected face-to-face is part of King Charles’ three-day visit to the US next week, which also includes a state dinner at the White House, a source previously told The Post.
Charles’ late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, made the last state visit by a member of the royal family in 2007.
President Trump met Charles after he visited Queen Elizabeth in June 2019 and again last year.
Charles became king after his mother’s death in 2022.
