United States Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby commended Germany's new military strategy, in which the European country outlined its plan to raise the number of its combat-ready troops to 460,000 by the middle of the 2030s.
"After years of disarmament, Berlin is stepping up," Colby wrote on X. "Berlin's new Military Strategy shows a clear path forward and we look forward to collaborating closely with the FRG [Federal Republic of Germany] to implement this."
Earlier in the week, the German Defense Ministry announced a plan to raise the number of the country's active-duty soldiers from approximately 186,000 to 260,000 and the number of reservists from 70,000 to 200,000 by the middle of the 2030s.
