Netflix Inc. launched a bid to acquire Roku Inc., but lost to Fox Corporation, Semafor reported on Tuesday, citing people involved in the sale process.
According to the report, Netflix failed to reach a deal with Roku after its offer fell short of Fox's $160-per-share price. In addition, another reason that led Roku's board of directors to reject the offer is the fact that a merger between Roku and Netflix would face stricter antitrust scrutiny, as Netflix rivals the leading players on the Roku platform, such as Disney's streaming services and Comcast's Peacock, the sources said.
Furthermore, the people claimed that Netflix is interested in buying Lionsgate Studios, although it has not submitted a formal indication of interest.
