Iran to launch trial direct flights between Zanjan and Moscow

Iran's Zanjan Airport will launch experimental direct flights to Moscow starting July 28, state news agency IRNA reported on Sunday, citing local airport head Mohammad Javad Yeganeh.

The first flight will depart Moscow for Zanjan on July 28, with the return flight scheduled for August 9, Yeganeh said.

Iranian carrier Meraj Airlines will operate the service in partnership with the private sector.

Yeganeh called the airport "a gateway for the province's economic prosperity," saying the new route aims to boost trade and tourism between the Iranian region and Russia.

"If there is good demand for this flight path, it will continue and expand," Yeganeh said, adding that the move could play an effective role in growing ties with Russia.

Meraj Airlines will also operate seasonal flights from Zanjan to Najaf, Iraq, for the Arbaeen pilgrimage, with flights scheduled for July 28 and August 11.
