United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Wednesday that Washington is considering expanding its Iran-related sanctions to target airlines, maritime activity, and digital assets.
"We're having fulsome talks with anyone supporting Iran," Bessent told Fox News in an interview, noting that the Trump administration's goal is to "systematically take out bad actors" connected to Iran. "No one should support this regime ... My message to everyone is to stay away," he added.
The US official also claimed that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf publicly acknowledged the impact of the American economic measures, noting that Iran's currency has "collapsed" and that the Iranian government is not able to pay military salaries.
