A drone presumed to have been used for surveillance and mapping was discovered in Porvoo in southern Finland yesterday, the country's Ministry of Defense said in a statement on Wednesday. The origin of the drone remained unknown, but it did not pose a threat to civilians, the ministry stated.
"The Finnish Border Guard and the police are investigating the incident," Finland's Defense Minister Antti Hakkanen said.
The incident was classified as a possible territorial violation amid heightened tensions with Russia, weeks after Finland temporarily restricted air and sea traffic in the eastern Gulf of Finland.
