United States Central Command (CENTCOM) briefed international shipping partners on Thursday on developments in the Strait of Hormuz.
During a virtual discussion, CENTCOM leaders highlighted what they described as growing momentum toward ensuring freedom of navigation in the strait. According to the released statement, "leaders highlighted building momentum for freedom of navigation as commercial traffic flow increases."
CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper acknowledged the risks faced by civilian crews, citing what he described as "unwarranted Iranian attacks" on commercial shipping. The move comes after US President Donald Trump claimed Washington took more oil out of the Strait of Hormuz in the past three nights "than at any time in the history of the strait."
