Iran closed a secret €500 million deal with Russia, aiming to acquire thousands of shoulder-fired missiles, the Financial Times reported on Sunday, citing leaked Russian documents and several people familiar with the matter.
According to the outlet, the agreement was signed secretly in Moscow last December. Russia allegedly committed to delivering 500 man-portable Verba launch units and 2,500 "9M336" over three years. The agreement aimed to bolster Iran's air defense after the twelve-day war with Israel last June.
The report comes amid the looming threat of a United States attack on the Middle Eastern country. Earlier today, Axios reported that the US is ready for Geneva talks this Friday if Tehran provides a detailed nuclear deal proposal over the next 48 hours.
