United States President Donald Trump announced on Friday that a 10% global tariff will be imposed in addition to other tariffs for a period of five months, in response to a US Supreme Court ruling.
"Today, I will sign an order to impose a 10% low global tariff under Section 122 over and above our normal tariffs already being charged, and we're also initiating several sections, 301 and other investigations, to protect our country from unfairness," Trump said at a press conference.
The US president also declared that, effective immediately, all national security tariffs under Section 232 and Section 301 will "remain fully in place," citing the 1974 Trade Act and Trade Expansion Act.
