Trump says tariffs cut US trade deficit 78%

 United States President Donald Trump claimed that the nation's trade deficit has dropped by 78% due to tariffs placed on foreign companies and governments.

In a post on Truth Social, he said that the balance will move into positive territory this year. "IT WILL GO INTO POSITIVE TERRITORY DURING THIS YEAR, FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MANY DECADES," Trump wrote.

The latest available data shows the US trade deficit widened to $56.8 billion in November 2025, rising from $29.2 billion in October.
