The US Navy base in Bahrain has shifted to "mission critical" staffing, leaving fewer than 100 personnel on site as Washington prepares for possible Iran strikes, Fox News reported on Thursday, citing multiple US officials.
Last June, the US Navy's 5th Fleet implemented the same mission-critical staffing reduction at its headquarters in the Gulf country just before launching Operation Midnight Hammer against Iran. The move constitutes standard operating procedure to minimize potential casualties while maintaining essential command capabilities during anticipated kinetic strikes.
The report comes as Washington and Tehran continue their negotiations in Geneva.
