U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on Friday said his office would initiate several new investigations under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, covering most major trading partners and areas such as pharmaceutical product pricing.
Greer said the Trump administration was confident that all trade agreements negotiated by President Donald Trump would remain in effect following Friday's decision by the Supreme Court to strike down tariffs ranging from 10% to 50% that were imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.
He said the new investigations could address areas of concern such as industrial excess capacity, forced labor, pharmaceutical pricing practices, and discrimination against U.S. technology companies and digital goods.
