Pakistan said to propose plan to reopen Hormuz

The Pakistani government issued a new proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Al Arabiya reported on Thursday. According to a Pakistani official, the plan would see Iran allow free passage through the strait in exchange for a partial lifting of sanctions imposed by the United States.

The report said there is "cautious optimism" about the proposal in Pakistan, which has positioned itself as one of the main mediators between Iran and the United States. The source added that contacts with Iran are ongoing, but that Tehran has not yet responded to the proposal.
