United Kingdom Chancellor Rachel Reeves is set to meet senior executives from Britain's largest banks this week to address the economic crisis from the war in Iran, Sky News reported on Sunday.
Executives from Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, NatWest, Santander UK, and Nationwide are expected to attend the meeting on Wednesday, with discussions likely to focus on the impact of rising energy costs and support for customers facing inflation pressures.
The talks come as the UK and European allies step up efforts to respond to the crisis, including plans for a multinational mission to secure shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) warned the energy shock could hit the UK harder than other major economies, with banks allegedly also expected to increase provisions amid weaker growth forecasts.
