United States President Donald Trump spoke to Fox News on Sunday following the shooting that took place in Washington earlier, underlining that "we can't let criminals change the course of our country." He went on to call the perpetrator a "very troubled guy." The shooter's alleged manifesto showed hatred toward the current administration.
"I was gonna get up and make an entirely different speech. I was gonna really rip it last night. I was talking about everybody. And then I said, well, my speech is gonna be much different. It'll be a speech of love," he commented, adding that he didn't get a chance to do it and is maybe "better off" without it.
The US head of state noted that the evening turned out "sad ... in many ways." Trump also mentioned that he hopes the White House Correspondents' Dinner will be rescheduled and take place soon. He further went on to praise the law enforcement for stopping the gunman "cold ... no games being played."
