Apollo Global Management Engages With New York Yankees Over $3 Billion Financing Deal
The New York Yankees are in advanced discussions to secure nearly $3 billion in financing from Apollo Global Management Inc., according to Bloomberg News, citing people familiar with the matter.
The Major League Baseball team and the private capital firm’s sports investing unit are negotiating terms for a package that would consist primarily of debt with some equity included, the people said.
Yankee Global Enterprises, which owns the Yankees, is controlled by American businessman Hal Steinbrenner and his family members. The company has also made investments in Italian football club AC Milan and Major League Soccer’s New York City FC.
A portion of the funds raised would be used to refinance existing debt, while the remaining amount would be allocated toward growth opportunities, the people said.
