US, Israel, Lebanon said to outline pilot zone process

The United States, Israel, and Lebanon have agreed on the guidelines for the pilot zone process in the ceasefire between the latter two, Barak Ravid of Axios and Israel's Channel 12 reported on Wednesday.

According to a State Department official, the "productive and positive" negotiations in Rome concluded after two days. The three sides agreed to finalize and implement the pilot zone in the coming days, and then proceed to "expanded technical talks" about the implementation of the ceasefire.

The purpose of the pilot zones is to provide a testing ground for a gradual withdrawal of the Israeli army from Lebanon. Then, the Lebanese military should take over control of those areas, with no other militant groups present there.
