The United States pressed Iran to publicly confirm on Saturday that the Strait of Hormuz remains open and to pledge not to target commercial ships, Axios reported, citing three senior American officials.
The demand was reportedly conveyed both directly and through regional partners, with the officials briefing reporters on Friday about Washington's position. "If it is not their position [tomorrow], it is not gonna be a great day for them," one of the officials was cited as telling the news agency.
The request comes amid renewed attacks in the Persian Gulf, where a fragile ceasefire collapsed following a week of escalating military actions by the United States and Iran.
