Arab mediators working to reopen the Strait of Hormuz are concerned that Iranian diplomats may lack the authority to ensure Tehran complies with an agreement, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The concerns come as Iranian negotiators, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, face growing pressure from hardliners who accuse them of making excessive concessions in negotiations, according to the report.
The newspaper said mediators' concerns were based on previous diplomatic efforts that faltered as well as conversations with Iranian negotiators, raising questions over whether an agreement to reopen the strategic waterway could be implemented even if one is reached.
