The US Department of Health and Human Services is considering creating two new deputy commissioner positions at the Food and Drug Administration, one focused on technology and artificial intelligence and another on drugs, CNBC reported, citing sources familiar with the plans.
The move could give the Trump administration greater influence over the FDA's work and leadership, according to the report. The new officials would report to Heidi Overton, President Donald Trump's nominee to lead the agency.
No final decisions have been made, and the roles have not been formally announced. Jared Seehafer is reportedly the leading candidate for the technology position, while no candidate has been identified for the drugs role.
