United States Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth denied on X a Washington Post report that troop deaths as a result of the conflict with Iran exceeded the Pentagon's official count, slamming the newspaper as "worse than Iranian state media."
The report cited anonymous sources alleging that 22 or 23 US soldiers died in the Middle East amid hostilities with Iran, whereas Washington had acknowledged only 14 deaths among US servicemen in the region.
Concurrently, US President Donald Trump denounced major media outlets, including Politico, CNN, and MSNOW, for their coverage of his second term, banned them from entering the White House, and subsequently threatened to extend the prohibition to the New York Times and the Washington Post as well.
